Preparing for a
Healthy Autumn.
Autumn with its cooler days, and turning of the leaves
is upon us. Autumn is a season where many people find themselves challenged by
colds, flu, respiratory illnesses, etc. Take these
simple yet necessary steps to prepare yourself for a
healthy Autumn.
Autumn is an ideal time to
put healthy lifestyle options into place.
1. Make healthy food
choices. Choose more vegetables and/or fruits for snacks
rather than sweets. Drink more water. Try to decrease or
eliminate beverages that create burden on your body -
soda, caffeine, sugar-ridden juices. Make your own
juice by adding a few pieces of fruit to water and
blending. It will taste good without any added sugar. If
not wanting to eliminate caffeinated drinks, then
consider decreasing the size of your beverage, or
decrease the number of caffeinated beverages you have in
a day.
2. Participate in
appropriate physical activity - consistently. It is more
of a health benefit to walk 4-6 days a week for 15-20
minutes than it is to walk once a week for an hour.
3. Include or increase
your intake of Immune Support herbs and supplements in
your daily routine. You don't have to take every Immune
Support Herb on the shelf, start with one or two
or a few and take them consistently. Start taking them
NOW, before you start to feel ill or become exposed to
sick co-workers, friends, or family members. See our
Immune Support products for ideas.
4. Get plenty of quality
sleep. Your body requires quality sleep in order for it
to repair and rejuvenate. Without adequate sleep (7-9
hours for most adults) the body can't keep itself
healthy and strong.
5. Once the weather
gets cooler, avoid drafts and sleeping with your head
near open windows. If outside in cold weather, keep the
back of your neck covered with a scarf, hat or high
collar. If, on the other hand, you live in a climate
where an air conditioner is needed during Autumn and
Winter, then avoid having your head in direct line of
the air conditioned air flow - especially while you
sleep. 6. Laugh
as much as possible. Have fun in whatever way works for
you. Research has shown that laughing and joy increase the endorphins that support our Immune system.
Research has also shown that a happy person or a person
with positive, healthy coping strategies is much
healthier on average than a sad person, or a person with
unhealthy coping strategies.
Following these simple
steps can greatly increase your chances of enjoying an
optimally healthy Winter.
Remember - Timing and
Consistency are often the key to implementing and
maintaining healthy changes. Start NOW while you are
still feeling well, and whatever healthy choices you
make - be consistent.
Wishing you a Happy & Healthy
Autumn & Winter!
